{"id":40574,"date":"2025-05-09T12:59:07","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T15:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iri.edu.ar\/?p=40574"},"modified":"2025-10-20T17:54:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T20:54:16","slug":"el-legado-de-joseph-nye-1937-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iri.edu.ar\/index.php\/2025\/05\/09\/el-legado-de-joseph-nye-1937-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"El legado de Joseph Nye (1937-2025)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Con la partida de <strong>Joseph Nye<\/strong>, quien falleci\u00f3 este martes 6 de mayo a los 88 a\u00f1os, se va uno de los principales referentes en la disciplina de las Relaciones Internacionales (RRII), quien deja detr\u00e1s un importante y extenso legado en la academia y que definir\u00eda a generaciones futuras de especialistas en el \u00e1rea.<\/p>\n<p>Conocido por ser uno de los pioneros en la renovaci\u00f3n disciplinar que se desarrolla desde la d\u00e9cada del \u201970, <strong>Nye<\/strong> es usualmente identificado como uno de los fundadores de la corriente Neoliberal o Neoinstitucionalista en las RRII. Su labor acad\u00e9mica es amplia, e incluye el desarrollo de conceptos innovadores como los de <em>soft-power<\/em> (poder blando), el cual describe la capacidad de formar alianzas y acuerdos sin recurrir al <em>hard-power<\/em> (poder duro) como lo entienden los te\u00f3ricos realistas y como \u00e9ste es fundamental para entender el rol hegem\u00f3nico estadounidense en el mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Su obra es vasta e incluye obras influyentes como <em>Power and Interdepence<\/em> (Poder e Interdependencia) realizado en coautor\u00eda con <strong>Robert Keohane<\/strong>, o <em>Bound to Lead: The Changing Nature of American Power<\/em>, donde popularizo el antedicho concepto.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nye<\/strong> estuvo fuertemente ligado a la <em>Harvard Kennedy School<\/em>, la facultad especializada en RRII dentro de la Universidad de Harvard, desde los \u201960. Se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 all\u00ed como profesor y posteriormente como decano hacia fines de los \u201990, alternando con un paso por la Universidad de Cambridge.<\/p>\n<p>El prol\u00edfico autor combin\u00f3 su labor te\u00f3rica y acad\u00e9mica con el desempe\u00f1o en la administraci\u00f3n gubernamental, asesorando a presidentes como <strong>Jimmy Carter<\/strong> y <strong>Bill Clinton<\/strong> en posiciones ligadas a la seguridad nacional y a la proliferaci\u00f3n nuclear. Su labor en estas posiciones le vali\u00f3 diversas condecoraciones.<\/p>\n<p>En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, <strong>Nye<\/strong> se mostr\u00f3 cr\u00edtico de <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>, se\u00f1alando como el magnate devenido en presidente y su predilecci\u00f3n por maniobras coercitivas -como sus aranceles comerciales- solo terminar\u00edan debilitando la capacidad de liderazgo estadounidense al erosionar el <em>soft-power<\/em> consolidado por d\u00e9cadas mediante el entramado de ONGs y el aparato pol\u00edtico-cultural estadounidense. En estos tiempos que corren, quiz\u00e1s ser\u00eda necesario revisitar su obra y fomentar su redescubrimiento por aquellos que se est\u00e1n introduciendo en la disciplina.<\/p>\n<p
